The Brooks County Independent School District acknowledges that exceptional talents can be found in children and adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds, across all socioeconomic strata, and in various domains of human achievement.
Our district is committed to identifying and serving elementary students with exceptional intellectual abilities by providing them with differentiated curriculum and instruction in the fundamental subjects of English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. At the secondary level, we identify and support students who excel in one or more Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and/or Dual Enrollment courses within the same core content areas.
Brooks County ISD adheres to the definition of gifted and talented students as outlined in Section 29.121 of the Texas Education Code:
A gifted/talented student is a child or youth who demonstrates the potential to perform at an exceptionally high level compared to peers of the same age, experience, or environment. These students may exhibit:
- Exceptional performance capability in intellectual pursuits.
- Outstanding proficiency in a specific academic field.
We are dedicated to nurturing the unique abilities and potential of our gifted and talented students, ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities necessary to thrive in their educational journey.
